The successful candidate will:

Provide administrative support, including, but not limited to:

  • Maintain accurate, current membership database with ability to retrieve, quickly and efficiently, hard data or computer-generated files in a variety of different formats.
  • Maintain accurate data on new members, associate members, and honorary life members.
  • Provide reports, lists, and labels for mailings as needed and requested.
  • Other duties as assigned by the manager or designate.

Skills required for this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Strong communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task, thrive in a fast-paced environment, adapt quickly to change, and develop new skills.
  • Advanced Excel skills.
  • Ability to learn other computer applications.
  • Ability to communicate positively with staff, members, local leaders, and organizational representatives, while maintaining a high level of professionalism and confidentiality.

(Health and Safety)

The Executive Assistant is a Staff Officer responsible for assisting members and Locals, working with committees, and developing and administering Federation programs, services, and policies.  The successful candidate will meet many of the following criteria.  The candidate has:

  • health and safety certification;
  • participated in site based and system based health and safety committees and school site inspections;
  • expertise in various areas of health and safety issues affecting teachers including violence and the initiation and resolution of complaints to the Ministry of Labour;
  • expertise in legislation, policy, certification, and workers’ rights under the legislation; 
  • superior oral and written communication skills;
  • a practical knowledge of the operation of a provincial teachers’ federation;
  • a commitment to maintaining high quality publicly funded education.

Role responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, the development of policy and the development and administration of health and safety programs for local leaders and local health and safety representatives.  The role will have a focus on the development and delivery of training programs for ETFO stewards, the development and negotiation of collective agreement language, appeals of Ministry of Labour orders where appropriate, and the creation of programs and resources to enhance the awareness of health and safety issues among members and promote their right to a safe workplace. Candidates shall have a clearly defined philosophy of the role of the Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario within the Ontario education community and be prepared to undertake such duties as may be determined by the General Secretary.

Preferred qualifications of candidates may include:

  • a broad range of Federation involvement;
  • a Certificate of Qualification to teach in Ontario;
  • a university degree;
  • five years of successful employment experience;
  • Class G Driver’s License, in good standing and reliable vehicle to use for Federation business as required.
